Sedation Pre-Op Instructions
Prepare for IV Sedation With Sedation Pre-Op Instructions in Hampton Roads
To help your procedure and anesthesia go as safely and smoothly as possible, please carefully follow these sedation pre-op instructions in Hampton Roads before your scheduled surgery.
Before Intravenous Anesthesia Instructions:
- Do not eat or drink anything, including water, for eight (8) hours before your anesthesia appointment.
- Avoid smoking for 12 to 24 hours before your surgery.
- Arrange for a responsible adult to accompany you to the office. Your escort should remain available during your procedure and drive you home afterward.
- Choose comfortable, casual clothing to wear on the day of your appointment.
- Remove contact lenses and most jewelry before surgery. Any removable dentures will also need to be taken out before your procedure.
- Do not wear lipstick or nail polish on the day of surgery.
- Notify our office before your procedure if you develop a fever, cold, stomach upset, or bowel problems.
- If you regularly take oral medications, discuss them with your oral surgeon during your consultation so you know how and when to take them before surgery.
After Your Procedure
- A responsible adult must escort you home following your procedure.
- Do not drive a motor vehicle or operate machinery for 24 hours after receiving intravenous anesthesia.
